Crossed by nine rivers, the ancient city of Xitang is divided into eight sections. Its tranquil atmosphere and the beauty of its landscapes attract a large number of national and international visitors. The magnificent landscape is also often depicted in Chinese landscape paintings.

Xitang is home to ancient residences and well-preserved architectural wonders built during the Ming and Qing Dynasties (1368-1911). Bamboo carvings, wood carvings, stone inscriptions and styles of construction illustrate China’s cultural relics.

It is also home to many bridges, alleys and covered corridors that have retained their original features for years.

The most impressive is that of 1000 meters long, forming a street with a tiled roof. Built along the river, it also serves as a shelter for people to get away from the scorching sun or rain.

You can stroll along the corridor, watch the boats slowly pass through the river, or immerse yourself in the glorious history of the area. Whenever you are tired, you can rest on a bench nearby.

Xitang has over 104 bridges that connect different sections across the city.

In the morning, the water flowing under bridges and tiled houses is reflected in the opposite direction on the water. As evening approaches, the setting sun shines sideways. You will probably hear people singing in their fishing boats.
