Christie Crimson Series Laser Projectors Light Up Culture Show in Furong Old Town

Christie® Crimson Series 3DLP® laser projectors were deployed for a large-scale cultural performance in the scenic ancient city of Furong, China’s Hunan Province.

Entitled “Revelry of the Blooming Hibiscus,” the nighttime show celebrates the rich culture of the Tujia people, one of the largest ethnic minority groups in the country, known for their remarkable singing, dancing and songwriting skills. Meticulously choreographed by famous theater directors featuring elaborate interior and exterior set designs, lighting effects and a captivating storyline, this highly anticipated cultural performance is a highlight of the annual Sheba Festival, an important opportunity for the Tujia to revel, socialize and pay homage to the ancestors.

The show made its official debut in May 2020 as part of China’s recovery efforts from the COVID-19 pandemic. In an effort to enhance the audience experience and increase the storytelling process, the producers of “Revelry of the Blooming Hibiscus” decided to include digital projections for the indoor and outdoor segments of the show in its. second season, which began in late 2020. The screenings were carried out by Christie’s partner Zhongqing Yingye Group, using three Christie Crimson WU31 laser projectors installed on the stage to deliver bright and bold images.

A spokesperson for Zhongqing Yingye Group said, “We are proud to participate in this vast cultural spectacle in Furong Old Town which celebrates the history, culture and achievements of the Tujia people. The Christie Crimson WU31 is our top choice for this project, as bright and vibrant imagery is needed to guide the storytelling and complement the performers live on stage in both indoor and outdoor environments. With an IP5X sealed solid state laser light source in a rugged and compact chassis, the Crimson WU31 is well suited for large scale events like this.

The spokesperson added that the two Crimson WU31 projectors deployed for the indoor performance are warped and mixed at the edges to display a multitude of exciting images across a width of 14 meters (45 feet wide), 6 meters high ( 19- feet high) backdrop. A third Crimson WU31 is used outdoors where the visuals are presented on a projection screen measuring 23 meters (75 feet) in length and 7 meters (23 feet) in height. This projector is housed in a weatherproof housing to protect it from moisture and the elements.

“Our client is impressed with the high quality screenings, which greatly enhanced the show and well demonstrated the energy, courage and patriotic spirit of the Tujia people,” she said. “Overall, we are very satisfied with the performance, versatility and reliability of the Crimson WU31.
