The tower complex is not only a spiritual and cultural space of people, but also a valuable heritage, in which intact traces of the history, architecture and art of sculpture of the minority remain. ethnic Cham.

Touching the solid wall with the dark red brick color of the Po Klong Garai Tower, no one can believe that these towers are 800 years old, defying the sun and the wind in a land suffering from the harshest nature in the country.

Located at the top of the Trau hill, the Po Klong Garai tower stands out for its majesty. The Po Klong Garai Tower Road is a sacred pilgrimage route and spiritual space of the Cham people in Ninh Thuan in particular and the whole country in general. Over the past 800 years, various traditional festivals such as the Ritual of Opening the Tower Gate, Prayer for Rain, and the Kate Festival have been held in the tower, bringing together the Cham ethnic minorities. The tower has become an attractive destination in Ninh Thuan for tourists to experience local culture.

In addition, the Po Klong Garai temple tower group has also been recognized as a national special relic site and has become one of the finest Cham tower complexes in the country. It consists of three towers named Cong (Gate), Lua (Fire) and Chinh (Hand). Through the introduction of the narrator, also a member of the Cham ethnic minority living in Ninh Thuan, the image of a once brilliant civilization comes closer to visitors. Tourists can learn about construction techniques, unique bricks and stones, delicate and sharp carved patterns, precious documents with intricately carved ancient writings, reliefs, sacred mascots such as the god Siva, the statue of King Po Klong Garai and Nandin (cow goddess).

At the foot of the hill, the exhibition space reveals more images of the Cham culture through the images, artifacts and traditional trading villages of pottery and brocade weaving. After a journey to admire the priceless masterpieces that the Cham people left to posterity, visitors can feel the respect and pride in the heritage of the local people of Ninh Thuan.

]]> Qatar faces new terrorism financing charges, embassy asks for more information https://tavistockdevon.com/qatar-faces-new-terrorism-financing-charges-embassy-asks-for-more-information/ Sat, 14 May 2022 05:08:00 +0000 https://tavistockdevon.com/qatar-faces-new-terrorism-financing-charges-embassy-asks-for-more-information/

Qatar, a key US ally in the Persian Gulf, is under scrutiny over its alleged financial ties to terrorism in a lawsuit brought by relatives of a slain US journalist and of a separate federal investigation into a member of the country’s royal family.

Steven Sotloff’s family claimed in a federal lawsuit on Friday that prominent Qatari institutions wired $800,000 to an Islamic State judge who ordered the murders of Sotloff and another American journalist, James Foley. Both men were beheaded in Syria in 2014, their killings filmed and published in gruesome propaganda videos.

We want to do everything we can to make sure no other family has to go through what we went through, the Sotloff family said in a statement explaining their lawsuit.

Separately, federal prosecutors have been investigating potential ties between the terror groups and Khalid bin Hamad Al-Thani, the half-brother of Qatar’s ruling emir, according to documents reviewed by The Associated Press and interviews with two people close to the investigation.

A grand jury investigation, conducted in the Southern District of New York, focused in part on whether Khalid Al Thani provided money and supplies to Al Nusra, the branch of al-Qaeda in Syria, the two people said. They spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the matter publicly.

Qatar has a strong relationship with the Biden administration. The world’s richest country per capita played a key role in evacuations from Afghanistan and its huge supplies of natural gas could help prop up European energy markets amid Russia’s war in Ukraine. Qatar could also play a vital role in President Joe Biden’s bid to revive a nuclear deal with Iran.

The Qatari embassy said it needed more information before it could comment on the reported investigation and did not immediately comment on the lawsuit.

Earlier this year, Biden named Qatar a major non-NATO ally, a move that could help in the country’s bid to win US approval for a sale worth more than $500 million. million worth of MQ-9 Reaper drones. Qatar is home to the largest US Air Force base in the Gulf.

Qatar is a good friend and a reliable partner, Biden said in January as he welcomed Qatar’s ruling emir, Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, to the White House.

But Qatar, which was one of the biggest international backers of the rebellion against Syrian President Bashar Assad, has long been criticized by some US officials for allowing or encouraging the funding of extremist groups in Syria, as well as for its support direct and indirect to the Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas.

Qatar said it condemned terrorism, but officials also acknowledged that its efforts may have helped the wrong people.

Look, in Syria everyone made mistakes, including your country, said Hamad bin Jassim Al-Thani, Qatar’s former prime minister and foreign minister, in a 2017 interview with American journalist Charlie Rose. He added that Qatar had never intentionally funded extremist groups in Syria and had cut funding to any group it learned had another agenda.

Lawyers for the Sotloff family said in the lawsuit that Qatari officials either knew or recklessly ignored that the Islamic State terrorists they allegedly funded would target Americans for kidnapping, torture and murder.

Foreign countries and government officials generally cannot be sued in US courts. But the US counterterrorism law allows victims of terrorism to seek damages from private entities linked to governments. The defendants in the Sotloff trial, Qatar Charity and Qatar National Bank, allegedly knowingly facilitated the financing of terrorist groups.

Specifically, the lawsuit says the charity and bank provided $800,000 to Fadel al Salim, which he allegedly smuggled into Syria from Turkey and then used to train a brigade of Islamic State fighters. and become a sharia judge.

Sotloff’s complaint said al-Salim signed the verdict of legal retribution ordering the deaths of Foley and Sotloff and led a convoy that transported the couple from a prison in Raqqa, Syria, to the town where they were killed. been killed.

Representatives of Qatar Charity and Qatar National Bank did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Al Salim’s current whereabouts are unknown. But US prosecutors have made significant progress in separate criminal cases against two of the British Islamic State militants responsible for the murder of Sotloff and three other American captives.

Alexanda Kotey was recently sentenced in federal court in Alexandria, Virginia to life in prison. El Shafee Elsheikh, who was convicted in a jury trial last month, also faces life imprisonment when sentenced in August.

Kotey and Elsheikh were part of a cell of British militants known to their captors as the Beatles because of their accents. They were captured in Syria in 2018 and transferred to the United States in 2020 for criminal prosecution after Attorney General William Barr agreed to take the death penalty off the table.

Another activist, Mohammed Emwazi, known as Jihadi John, was killed in a US drone strike in 2015 and a fourth was arrested in Turkey.

Sotloff, Foley and Peter Kassig were beheaded as part of propaganda videos released by IS in 2014 while Kayla Mueller was tortured and raped by Islamic State leader Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi before being killed . The hostage-taking also resulted in the killing of British and Japanese captives, officials said.

We are forever shattered by the loss of our beloved son and set like people from a horror movie, mother Shirley Sotloff said during Kotey’s sentencing hearing.

The Sotloff lawsuit, filed in West Palm Beach, Fla., does not disclose how the information in the complaint was obtained. But it includes a high level of detail, such as a specific bank account number, passages from a handwritten statement acknowledging receipt of payments, and Islamic State court records.

The lawsuit also alleges that members of the Qatari royal family and government officials worked with the Muslim Brotherhood and Turkish intelligence services to fund extremist groups in Syria in an effort to undermine the Assad regime.

Similar allegations of prominent Qataris funding terror groups have been made in two ongoing lawsuits filed in London on behalf of Syrian refugees.

Ben Emmerson, a London-based lawyer representing the refugees, said there is clear evidence that US officials have chosen to turn a blind eye to Qatar’s terrorist financing in Syria because the US needs support. Qatar’s assistance in other areas.

This is realpolitik in action, he said.

One of the London lawsuits alleges that Qatar National Bank board members made hawala payments – an informal money transfer system – directly to Al Nusra, the branch of al-Qaeda. in Syria. These include transfers, according to the lawsuit, by the emir’s half-brother, Khalid Al Thani. He previously served on the board of Qatar National Bank.

It’s unclear whether those payments are part of the grand jury investigation involving Khalid Al-Thani, who is at least a year old. Prosecutors for the Southern District of New York declined to comment.

*LATEST* Redfall – Release Date, Pre-Order Info, Gameplay & More https://tavistockdevon.com/latest-redfall-release-date-pre-order-info-gameplay-more/ Thu, 12 May 2022 12:29:41 +0000 https://tavistockdevon.com/latest-redfall-release-date-pre-order-info-gameplay-more/

In another big step for the company, Redfall is an exciting new project from Arkane. A cooperative multiplayer FPS, Left 4 Dead or Back 4 Blood players can enjoy it. Here’s what we know about it so far.

LAST – Delayed Redfall

Perhaps in order to temper expectations before the stream, Both Redfall and Starfield have been delayed until the first half of 2023.

Hopefully we will see some news about it soon.

Redfall release date

At the moment, we don’t have a release date set yet. Last year it was announced that it would arrive in the summer of 2022, but it has since been delayed. There’s a new Xbox and Bethesda showcase in June and, if we don’t see a Redfall release date then, we won’t see one for a little while.

If we see an official release date soon, we’ll update you here on all the news.

Redfall Pre-Order Details

The Bethesda site has a full page dedicated to Redfall but we don’t have any pre-order details yet. It seems likely that these will come with a release date announcement.

On the page, you can access an Arkane community and download an exclusive wallpaper for free. Along with that, you can download unique images, reviewing our four main characters as well as general atmospheric stills. You can access the site here.

Redfall Gameplay Details

Redfall is a cooperative FPS in which you play as one of four main characters. You are placed in the town of Redfall, Massachusetts which has been cut off from the rest of the world. In doing so, the vampires stalk the humans and a vicious cult mysteriously supports them. You and your buddies will be the last defense against their evil plans.

Although we’ve seen a trailer, we haven’t seen any official gameplay yet. It seems to be inspired by co-op shooters like Back 4 Blood and Left 4 Dead, but with a vampire twist. All main characters have special powers, functioning much like a hero shooter. You have to choose your character and drive a stake through your enemies.

Out of Town Guide: Esperance https://tavistockdevon.com/out-of-town-guide-esperance/ Tue, 10 May 2022 08:33:03 +0000 https://tavistockdevon.com/out-of-town-guide-esperance/

Nestled in a crescent-shaped bay along Western Australia’s secluded southern coast, Esperance – or Kepa Kurl, as the local Wudjari Nyungar call it – was once a sandman’s secret. But now it is also increasingly popular with interstate visitors. It’s hardly surprising. Along with its famous candy-pink lake, gorgeous wildflower trails through a UNESCO-listed national park, and beaches rated among the best in the country, the city’s offerings have matured in recent years with new arrivals. excellent dining venues and stylish stays. .

With a paddock-to-table microbrewery, a bush-to-bottle distillery, and a charming cottage village, savvy locals capture the vibe and flavors of the region — making the hour-long plane ride and half from Perth or an epic road trip, all the more enticing.

Whether you’re new to town or a third-generation angler, you’ll want to gravitate towards shore. That’s what Jane Coole did in 2017 when she opened Taylor St Quarters with her daughter, Sophie McMeikan, restoring the building that housed Esperance’s former hospital and tea rooms. The modern restaurant, with terraces and lawns overlooking the marina, transforms from a cafe and restaurant during the day to a lively cocktail bar and live music venue at night. McMeikan is a baker and her partner, Dean Wood, is the executive chef of TSQ. Together they have raised the bar for Esperance’s food scene. Expect snacks inspired by the region’s coastline and agricultural heritage, like tempura akoya oysters and grilled octopus, plus vegan burgers and karaage tofu bao buns. Accompany them with a glass of Riesling from the Deep South or a Chardonnay from the South West.

The Fish Face seafood restaurant is also the local champion. Owner-operators Craig and Dahlia Adams change their menu daily, depending on what the boats bring in that morning and seasonal vegetables. With Covid-related staff shortages putting an end to their catering service for the time being, the couple are still doing a roaring takeaway business. Drop anchor here for breaded nannygai or snapper and fries, sea bass cod rillettes with Lithuanian-style garlic-rubbed herb bread, blue-eyed trevalla with Parisian sauce or marinated octopus.

Located among the historic buildings of Museum Village, the new Bistro Louis opened its doors earlier this month. The French-style cafe is run by co-owner and head chef Roger Poutet (formerly at Melbourne’s popular Bar Margaux) and is set to operate as a bistro in the evenings with dishes such as coq au vin and steak tartare. For now, however, Poutet — who received much of his culinary training from his French-Swiss father — makes traditional brunches like croque monsieur, freshly topped baguettes and homemade madeleines and pastries.

Perhaps the only thing better than freshly baked sourdough from Bread Local is their lemon cheesecake cruffins. And the banoffé galette. And jalapeno, cheese and mustard rolls. Granted, it’s hard to pick a favorite at this family-run, wood-fired bakery four miles west of Esperance, nestled among the gum trees. The kitchen is run by baker Tiffany Brown and open Friday afternoons only.

If you’re looking to pick up any of the aforementioned breads in town – or any of Esperance’s quality products for that matter – head to Bob & Jim’s General Store. Trading since 1973, this small independent grocer is run by the granddaughter of the original owner and supports Australian artisan producers. Buy Yirri Grove Olive Oil, Kommunity Brew Kombucha, and Holy Smoke Pate and Meats here. Or opt for a seasonal basket.

Long gone are the days when being away from the city meant going without a good coffee. In fact, isolation has been a blessing for Glen and Mitsuko Rollond – the couple behind Cloud 11 Coffee & Tea. Roasting its own since 2017, Glen’s Upward Spiral blends have a strong local fan base and are also attracting connoisseurs from further afield. Stop by the cafe on Dempster Street to try it, accompanied by a pastry or fancy toastie. It’s also where you’ll find Mitsuko’s own chai blend, select teas and its range of handmade ceramics, Mintblue Sea.

On the outskirts of town is the award-winning microbrewery Lucky Bay Brewing. Growing up on farms in the Wheatbelt, owners Nigel Metz and Robyn Cail are the first in the country to produce their craft beer from raw barley, which they source from the area’s farming community. While their Sandy Hook Pale Ale (which is also available in a one-litre to-go can) and Figure of 8 Island Ale are big on flavor from Esperance, their range also showcases other regions – like their Beaches to Boab Blonde Ale which features Ord River Kimberley Corn. Consume to live music and one of their wood-fired pizzas in the brasserie’s cabana-style restaurant.

Launched in late 2020, Esperance Distillery Co may be the smallest distillery in the country (its 30 liters still only produce batches of 50 bottles), but the father-son team behind the city’s first and only distillery is big. on passion, emphasizing the value of preserving the environment and capturing the taste of Hope. David Price and James McCarthy-Price want to showcase the region’s incredible floral diversity (nearby Fitzgerald River National Park is a UNESCO-recognized biodiversity hotspot), combining local native plants like l vanilla acacia and Esperance wax alongside traditional juniper to create their sublime selection of gin. Stop by the cellar door to try their award-winning Cut and Run gin and Blue Haven gin, as well as their limited-release Eight Islands vodka, which contains botanicals from the ocean, like sea kelp combined with tangerine and lemon zest.

Since returning from Sydney and opening Esperance Chalet Village in 2015, Fiona and Matt Shillington have significantly upped Esperance’s accommodation game. Very stylish A-frame chalets and luxury king cabins and cabins scattered around their 3.2 hectare bush property have their own outdoor setting and fire pits. Inside, you’ll find white interiors, plush furnishings, luxury linens from Bed Tonic, and bath products from Appelles Apothecary. The recently added Creek House – with its bespoke and intimate interior – hosts fine dining events and yoga and wellness retreats. Outside, guests have access to free bikes to get into town and canoes to ride up Bandy Creek, which meanders past the village.

If you really want to get away from it all, Woody Island Eco Tours offers day trips to Woody Island Nature Reserve, located 15 kilometers offshore from Esperance. If you want to relax, soak up a bit of nature, and enjoy island activities such as hiking, snorkeling, and fishing, they also offer luxury retreats in the form of full-scale canvas tents. furnished with private balconies overlooking the sea – with the addition of complimentary champagne on arrival.

From the country’s whitest sand beaches – so pure and clean it squeaks – to turquoise-blue bays, lakes and fairy-thread sunsets, there are countless ways to enjoy of the colorful coast of Esperance. Great Ocean Drive is a good way to introduce you to some of the best beaches in the area. Hire a car and drive around the 40-kilometer loop, stopping at spectacular viewpoints and local favorites like Blue Haven Beach and Twilight Cove. Lucky Bay is also not to be missed. Located in Cape Le Grand National Park, this crescent-shaped bay, with its resident host of sunning kangaroos, consistently ranks among the best beaches in the world. In the spring, Cape Le Grand is teeming with colorful wildflowers. Or for serious observers there is the Esperance Wildflower Trail. Alternatively, take the Coastal Trail or hike to Frenchman Peak to combine a walk with stunning views.

To mingle with marine life, take a scenic wildlife cruise with Esperance Island Cruises. Departing from Taylor Street Jetty, the half-day cruise that visits some of the 105 islands of the Research Archipelago gives you the chance to see and snorkel with bottlenose dolphins, Australian sea lions, fur seals from New Zealand and maybe even a whale.

Or book a scenic flight over Lake Hillier on Middle Island. The Instagram-famous bright pink lake, which stretches 600 meters above the largest island in the Recherche archipelago, is considered one of the best examples of its kind in the country. With flight operator Helispirit, now a partner of Woody Island Eco Tours, you can combine it with a day trip to the nature reserve from October to April.

US State Department offers $10 million reward for information on Conti members https://tavistockdevon.com/us-state-department-offers-10-million-reward-for-information-on-conti-members/ Sun, 08 May 2022 13:54:47 +0000 https://tavistockdevon.com/us-state-department-offers-10-million-reward-for-information-on-conti-members/

The US State Department is offering $10 million for any information that identifies or locates people linked to the notorious Conti ransomware gang.

An additional $5 million reward is also offered for information leading to the arrest or conviction of a Conti member.

In a statement on Friday, State Department spokesman Ned Price said the group was behind hundreds of ransomware attacks over the past two years.

“The FBI estimates that as of January 2022, there have been over 1,000 victims of attacks associated with the Conti ransomware with victim payouts exceeding $150,000,000, making the Conti Ransomware variant the costliest ransomware strain never documented,” Price said.

The note also notes that the group recently claimed responsibility for a high-profile ransomware attack that targeted the government of Costa Rica during its transition to a new president. The attack crippled the country’s customs and tax platforms alongside several other government agencies. The attack even brought down the energy supplier of a town in Costa Rica.

Conti attacked Ireland’s Health Service Executive in May 2021, causing weeks of disruption to hospitals across the country. Ireland refused to pay the $20m ransom and now believe they could end up spending $100m to recover from the attack.

Irish Minister of State Ossian Smyth said it was “probably the most significant cybercrime attack on the Irish state”.

The group has also crippled dozens of hospitals in New Zealand and made it a point to go after US healthcare and first responder networks, including law enforcement, medical services emergency services, 9-1-1 dispatch centers and municipalities over the past year, according to the FBI.

The group has suffered several internal violations over the years, the most notable of which occurred in February after it was expressed public support for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

A few days after the message, the gang’s internal Jabber/XMPP server – which carried their private messaging channel – was hacked, and two years of the group’s chat logs appeared on a new Twitter account called @ContiLeaks.

The leaks revealed the inner workings of the group and illustrated how they chose their targets.

The embarrassment of leaks did little to slow the band down. On Wednesday, they added New York architecture firm EYP to its list of victims.

The State Department in November offered a $10 million reward for information that could lead to the identification and/or arrest of members of the Darkside ransomware group as well as the operators behind the REvil (Sodinokibi) group. .

Parking control

With parking soon becoming scarce in the Old Town, you may find overtime parking rules enforced. Code Enforcement Officer Dan Frazier of the City of Florence said that over the past 2 years there has been little focus on parking in the old town due to the pandemic and the difficulty that businesses even had to stay in business. Frazier said he didn’t want to add to the frustration the region was experiencing. With pandemic restrictions lifted and business back to normal, he says parking enforcement will also return to normal. The check will be random according to Frazier and can take place 5 days a week or 2 days a week. When the tires are marked, he says he is giving the time an extra 30 minutes, so there is no doubt that the vehicle has been parked too long. There will be fewer spaces available with restaurants taking advantage of cafe seating in front of their space.

Yard debris deposit

May’s Florence’s Yard Debris Collection event will take place a week earlier than usual. Generally, collection takes place on the third Saturday of most months. But, in May, it also coincides with the annual Rhododendron Festival. That’s why he will come on the second Saturday, May 14and. It will still only be $11 for a standard pickup load, a bit more for larger loads. And only organic matter is allowed. No rocks, dirt, litter or ‘out of yard’ debris, and your load should be secured and covered with a tarp. Follow signs for Highway 101 to the west end of 27and Street at the north end of the airport from 9 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Saturday May 14and.

Voting Information

You should have already received your main ballot in the mail. According to Lane County Clerk Cheryl Betschart, there are a few things to keep in mind when filling it out. Once you have marked your ballot and placed it in the secret and outer envelopes, you will need to sign it on the back or your ballot will be void. She says it’s also important to make sure you get it back on time. Election Day is May 17, and ballots must either be dropped off at one of 21 ballot boxes across Lane County, including Florence at the Justice Center, or mailed in so it can be stamped no later than May 17.and; no postage is required. Betschart says returning it as soon as possible helps ensure your vote is counted and makes the election process much more efficient. If you haven’t received a ballot and think you should, you can get voting information at lanecounty.org/elections.
