âIlluminated electronic billboards will indicate the expected arrival time of a particular bus line and its next destination. For this, there will be synchronization of data and information in real time between the bus stops. Commuters will be able to know when the next bus will arrive and how long it will take to reach the next stop, âsaid a Hidco official.
One of these billboards has already been installed at the Narkelbagan bus stop. âIt would be very helpful. Not only will those waiting for a bus know the route, but commuters will be able to know the expected arrival of the bus, much like the arrival and departure times of trains, which will allow commuters to plan their time instead of ‘wait forever,’ said Kaustav Dey, a New Town resident.
Officials said Hidco has made efforts to develop more smart bus stations in the township. Authorities had previously set up three of these smart bus stands with a solar panel roof, an LCD display panel showing the arrival and departure times of the buses as well as the route fare, a newspaper corner and magazines as well as a kiosk for commuters to sit down, browse magazines and have a cup of tea or coffee while waiting for a bus. Officials said the bus stations were very popular with people. âThe idea is to have smart amenities for passengers while they wait to board a bus, remaining coordinated with smart city initiatives,â an official said.
