Detectives investigating an alleged gun incident in Dalton last night continue to ask for information.

Officers were called to Ridgeway shortly before 5 p.m. yesterday over reports of a loud bang allegedly caused by a gun discharge and a man seen fleeing from a vehicle.

Police found no evidence of a gun discharge following a thorough search of the area and a forensic examination of the scene.

A police cordon was in place overnight but has since been withdrawn.

Officers wish to speak to the man seen running away from a gray / silver VW Polo near the intersection of North Carr and Longfield Avenue at the time of the incident.

The man is described as being slim and wearing a black jacket with a light colored top underneath, gray jogging pants and black sneakers.

Principal Investigating Officer Detective Superintendent Emma Winfield said:

“We are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the incident and call on anyone with information to come forward.

“I want to reassure residents that we have additional high visibility patrols in the area.

“We look forward to hearing from the man or anyone else in the Ridgeway area at the time who has yet to speak to the police and anyone with CCTV or dash camera footage of the VW Polo in the area at the time of the incident.

“Anyone with information is urged to contact police on 101 citing newspaper 1089 for January 7 or via the 101livechat option on the website.”
