Starke County Commissioners and Starke County Council members are looking for a new county prosecutor after Marty Lucas expressed his desire not to be re-appointed. He was Attorney General for 10 years.
Lucas said he would still perform his duties as a lawyer, but not for the county.
At the joint meeting of Starke County and Starke County Council commissioners on Monday, they discussed with Justin Schramm a possible appointment to the post. He is currently counsel for the Town of North Judson and has held this position for the past five years. He is also the lawyer for the City of Winamac.
Commission Chairman Charlie Chesak, Board Chairman Dave Pearman and Deputy Board Chairman Brad Hazelton spoke with Schramm ahead of the meeting to work out some details, including serving as counsel for the Starke County Park Board.
Pearman said there would be an annual provision for Schramm of about $ 48,000.
Schramm has said there are a few things he would like to talk to Lucas about before accepting a nomination offer.
The council and commissioners unanimously approved a motion to appoint Schramm as the county attorney, pending Schramm’s acceptance.
